For every garment, a tailored process is essential to fulfill the vision. Generally, this is how my design process unfolds
Bespoke Commission Work:
My design process is personal and involved, ensuring that every garment is uniquely tailored to my client's vision. It begins with an in-depth conversation about the purpose of the commission and any upcoming events the garment is intended for. We discuss silhouettes and desired looks, using photographic references to help me fully understand their ideas. If the client is familiar with fabrics, we delve into material discussions as well.
I then develop original sketches, ensuring that while we may draw inspiration from existing designs, we create concepts that are entirely our own, giving proper credit where due. Once the design concept is finalized, I take precise measurements to calculate the necessary fabric, always overestimating to avoid shortages.
Next, I draft a preliminary invoice detailing the potential cost of the commission, noting that this figure may change based on labour. A 40% down payment is required before any work begins to cover the costs of materials and tools. With the essentials procured, I start by creating a toile, a muslin prototype of the garment, to perfect the fit and make adjustments.
Once the toile is approved, I proceed with constructing the final garment, involving the client in multiple fittings to ensure the perfect outcome. With their permission, I document the process, sharing progress and final results on my Instagram (@theoriginal.design) and other social media platforms.
Before delivering the garment, I confirm the final invoice and require full payment. This thorough and collaborative process guarantees that each piece is not just a garment, but a bespoke creation that tells the client's unique style narrative.
